…my life up to now…

Hi, everybody!  Been pretty busy as of late but I’m back and I plan on making this more of a regular occurrence.  Here’s a quick update for those interested in my life up to now:

-Finally concluded the iPhone Chronicles last week.  After several months, it’s finally done…at least until this week, when I’ll be posting an epilogue but after that it’s definitely, absolutely, positively done!  If you haven’t been checking it out, click on the Geek Theory tab and get caught up!

-Spent the weekend in Kansas City, hanging with my wife and the in-laws, shopping, eating, and trying to stay either dry and/or cool.  Humidity following rain following humidity and so on and so forth…

-Saw “The Avengers”.  Twice!  It was amazing, I’ve been struggling to not just post a full review but by the time I do, everyone will have seen it.  Hell, I may do it anyway.

-Still reading “Game of Thrones.”  I know, pathetic but it’s a big book and I usually don’t have time to read it til bedtime where I’ll read half a chapter and fall asleep.  At least I’m better than my wife; she’s been reading “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” for two years and still isn’t done.

That’s about it so far.  Lots coming up in the coming months, including a garage sale here in a couple weeks, Relay for Life the week after, and then who knows?  The crazy never stops.  Fortunately, like Catwoman*, “I’m adaptable.”

*quoting the new “Dark Knight Rises” trailer which I’ve watched half a dozen times already.  Yes I’m a nerd.

Monkeys Stole My Face!

Ok, so not really but if they had, it would totally be a legitimate excuse for not blogging for a while.  Here’s a quick update of the past few weeks:

Planet Comicon was a blast.  Met lots of cool people, including a couple Topeka natives who are working on their own book. More details and pictures are forthcoming

Made friends with some local retailers who agreed to help advertise my own little comic.  Thanks, Vintage Stock and Gatekeeper Hobbies!

My (actual) job is getting ready for our physical inventory so sleep and free-time are soon to be nonexistent so let’s hope I survive the experience.

Enjoyed a relaxing Easter with my wife and got to see most of my family and hers (usually we split up so this was kind of a big deal).  Ate way too much, thus I decree Easter to now be known as the Thanksgiving of spring.

Discovered the coolest thing ever (this week): a 5K where you run…to avoid being killed by zombies!  Seriously, check it out, it is epicly awesome :http://runforyourlives.com/

Also, while you’re surfing the interwebs, check out my family blog, managed by my lovely wife.  She’s a much better blogger than I am, or so she says: http://kieffersintopeka.blogspot.com/

Anyway, that’s been my life lately.  If you haven’t checked out Geek Theory this week, that’s good because there were some grievous spelling errors that literally drove me crazy yesterday.  Head over and check out the completed version and be sure to come back tomorrow to see the next comic.  That’s right, folks, two comics this week.

Now don’t say I never give you anything! 😉

Comicon Bound

Well, it’s nearly upon us now: Planet Comicon.

I know it’s not much compared to the sprawling epic that was San Diego Comic-Con last year but Planet Comicon has always had a special place in my heart.  It was the first big con I’d ever attended; nearly every other one had been in a hotel or the back of a bowling alley (seriously).  I still remember shelling out thirty bucks for a set of Star Wars dvds (the originals, no less and long before the box set was ever released).

Ah, yes, overpriced bootlegs.  Good times.

Anyway, this is a special occasion for me as it marks my tenth anniversary of going to Comicon.  Not a huge milestone, mind you, and I know it might be a bit silly to celebrate ten years of driving to Kansas City and spending way too much money on crap but it’s become much more than that.  This is an opportunity to meet new people, both professionals and amateur creators (like myself) who are just trying to get their work out there.  I’m just another small fish in an ever-growing ocean of creativity but being in a school with other fish is a great experience.  I meet lots of cool folks and I hope to continue that this year.  With any luck, I might even get to meet guest-of-honor, Billy Dee Williams!

"Hi there."

Yep, Lando Calrissian himself is going to be there.  My wife is already restraining herself to keep from asking how it felt to sell out his best friend to the Empire.  I’m sure he never actually did that in real life.  Probably.

Well, that’s all for now.  I’ve got lots to do before the weekend and better get started.  I’ll actually be posting the newest “Geek Theory” tonight, so be sure to check that out.  And stay tuned as I’ll be posting pics from this year’s con right here and on Facebook.

Gotta run, I need to find my vintage Lando action figure to get autographed!

This guy blew up the 2nd Death Star.  Crazy, huh?

Happy Pi Day!

So, it’s 3/14 and that means it’s Pi Day! Not to be confused with Pie Day, which is of course any day in which pie can be made available for consumption.  Those are pretty much the best days ever.

Mmmm…pie.  I like pie.

Sorry, getting distracted.  So…um…yeah, Pi.  Yay numbers!

Anyway, moving on.  As I said last month, I’ll be attending Planet Comic-Con the weekend of the 24th-25th.  In addition to dressing up and walking the floor, I’ll be promoting the heck out of “Geek Theory” by meeting fellow creators, dropping business cards like they’re hot and handing out fun promo materials like this postcard:

Many thanks to my lovely wife for helping with the design and printing process.  I’ll be throwing these up all over town.  Now I’ve just got to work on my portfolio and make sure I’ve got plenty of stuff worth getting viewed by professionals (fingers crossed).

Lastly, a quick shout-out to my buddy James and his friends at dailyjournalkcz.blogspot.com.  They’ve got an awesome zombie-centric blog that’s a lot of fun.  If you like reading about the undead, dismemberment, and the Apocalypse (and who doesn’t?), check it out.

Now, I’m off to go doodle some more and enjoy a nice slice of Pi.  Later, folks!

Under construction

You may have noticed some changes going on in the past week or so.  I’ve had the site for nearly a year now and have decided to change it up a bit, starting with “Geek Theory.”  The format has changed to make it easier to read (as well as making it easier for me to post) and so I’ll be re-posting all of the older strips in this format.  A new strip will be available a little later but for now I’ve re-posted the very first strip, now in color, with the rest to follow.  Sorry for the inconvenience but I hear change is good, so we’ll soon see.  As always, feel free to comment and be sure to check back as I’ll be updating the site throughout the day.  Later, peeps!

UPDATE: All the comics have finally been re-posted.  The newest comic “iPhone Chronicles pt 7” is now up.  Thanks for your patience!

Happy (Belated) Valentines!

Hello all!  I hope you had an enjoyable Valentine’s Day, and to those single fans, it’s just another day, try not to cry about it, there’s plenty of fish in the sea and chances are one is getting caught in a shrimping boat net as we speak.

So here we are with yet another rambling.  Not much to reflect on other than this year is going by fast and it’s hard to believe it’s been nine months since this site went up.  I hope everyone has had a great 2012 so far and if this is the last year of human existence, well, we could do a lot worse (see 2011, 2010, 2009, etc).

As with the first quarter of every year, I’m getting ready for the central midwestern equivalent of SDCC, Planet Comic-Con.  I will be attending, as I do every year, as a fan, checking out vendors, and meeting with local and mainstream creators to discuss their craft, and hopefully, mine (to anyone who’ll listen).  I met some very cool people last year and hope to catch up with some of them and meet others in the trade.  If you happen to be out that way, I’ll be the awkward looking twenty-something with glasses and a portfolio trying desperately not to shell out hard-earned money for those rare “Deadpool” comics I look at every year.  Every year!  Stupid Deadpool.
Anyway, I need to go be productive for a while as I am currently working on a special Geek Theory strip that will be posted this Friday (in color, no less!), and I need to make sure the next chapter in the iPhone Chronicles is ready to go for next week.  Stuff happens in this one, I swear!
Later, peeps!

Wuddup y’all?

Sorry it’s been a while.  Been a crazy busy year so far.  There has been many an evening spent cleaning, dining, gaming, and shopping these last few weeks with no sign of stopping anytime soon.  Well, I can hope for an end to cleaning but I know that’s probably never gonna happen.

A few status updates:

Currently playing: Lego Harry Potter 2.  Gearing up for the final showdown with little Voldemort.  He’s so darned cute, I almost feel bad for destroying all his LEGO Horcruxes!

Listening to: lots of Broadway; American Idiot, Rock of Ages, and Book of Mormon.  Excellent albums all.

Reading: Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin.  Compelling human drama set in a far-off land where dragons once existed.  If only all fantasy novels were as riveting.

Planning: A trip to New York.  Oh yes, trading one coast for another.  Looking to book our place right now so any input would be greatly appreciated!

And that’s been my life lately!  Also, there’s a new Geek Theory up today.  Sorry for the delay but this week has been nuts.  This week’s strip continues the (not-so) epic iPhone Chronicles and is actually two whole pages, instead of the usual one.  It’s also being published in black and white to give me time to complete each installment in advance so I don’t have any further delays.  I may color it someday but for now I’m happy with it as is.  Hope everyone else is too.  See ya next week!

First post of the new year!

Sorry for the delay, folks.  Decided to take a longer holiday than I had originally planned.  So here we are, in the year 2012.  We may not be getting flying cars or jetpacks in every home but at least we’ll see Avengers, Spider-men, and Dark Knights rising in theaters this calendar year.  And speaking of calendars, thanks to those crazy Mayans, people everywhere are thinking this could be the last year of humanity’s existence.  But I say don’t believe the hype.  And don’t believe bad sci-fi movies starring John Cusack either.  The fact is, the world’s not gonna end.  At worst, the country will face financial ruin, people everywhere will lose jobs, and we’ll end up in another Great Depression but, hey, at least we have one more “Twilight” movie to look forward to, right?

On second thought, I’m building my bomb shelter now and waiting out the coming apocalypse.

Closing out the year…

Well, here we are in the final week of 2011.  What a crazy year it’s been.  I’ve had surgery, went to Comic-Con, started my own website, and done probably close to two hundred loads of laundry.  Man, 2011 rocked!  Except for the surgery and laundry parts.

My last strip of the year has just posted and I couldn’t be happier with how “Geek Theory” has turned out.  The gang will be back in 2012 with even more pop culture references, dorky humor, and an expanding cast of characters, starting next week with my first sequential storyarc entitled, “Geeks of the Future Past.”  Should be a blast.

Anyway, thanks as always for visiting, and I’ll see you next week/year.  Happy Holidays!
