So here’s the story as best I can tell it without committing possible plagiarism:
Kelly Sue DeConnick is a writer for Marvel Comics, soon to be writing “Avengers Assemble” this fall. She is a fantastic writer who loves her fans, so much so that she simply couldn’t help herself when she met a young girl at a recent convention; a young girl who convinced Kelly that they needed to create a comic together that would incorporate all her favorite things, among them ninjas, zombies, vampires, and kitties. I’m sure anyone reading this with a beating heart could understand. Those of you who are zombies (and I know you undead read this) are obvious exceptions but I won’t hold that against you. Just the eating human flesh part.
So, long story made slightly shorter, Kelly decided to get other people involved (basically anyone that follows her on Twitter). People who have a penchant for drawing princesses, ninjas, ninja princesses, zombie ninjas, and the like were all invited to contribute. How could I decline?
Anyway, without further ado, here’s the first of my illustrations from “Winter’s Tales.” Enjoy.

Comic Book Stuff
Hey, long time no see! Figured it was waaay past blog time so let’s hit the ground running!
SDCC’s been over for a few weeks now but the latest “Geek Theory” storyline “Adventures in Comic-Con” is still going (despite recent delays). Hope you’ve all been enjoying it and, as always, feel free to comment or provide feedback via my Facebook or Twitter feeds. As a creator, I’m always looking for criticism (both good AND bad) so I know what to keep doing and what to work on, so drop me a line anytime. I’m always happy to talk with readers!
Speaking of the comic, you’ll notice today’s is not only late but a little different. “Adventures in Comic-Con Part 3” is running behind and will be up by Friday so in the meantime, I’ve scoured my comic strip archives to bring you “Corporate America.” See, back in college I made several attempts at a regular comic strip and one of those many endeavors was going to be about my experiences in retail. Needless to say I quickly grew bored of the characters and today’s strip is all that remains. However several elements of what it would eventually become will make their way into future “Geek Theory” stories, so at least they won’t go to waste. You may also notice a slight resemblance between our character Graham and “Geek Theory’s” stars Charlie and James.
While searching through my archives, I found several other notable works (most of which are the so bad it’s almost enjoyable variety) that I may post on this blog in the near future. We’ll see.
In the meantime, I did want to mention a couple things that have come to light and I want to get the word out:
1) I won’t talk much about the tragedy that occurred in Aurora, Colorado almost two weeks ago but for anyone that plans on seeing “The Dark Knight Rises” or any other film actually, several theaters are giving the option to donate the price of a movie ticket to the victims in Aurora. Several people are still in the hospital after the shooting and they could use the help. Trust me, that money’s better served than going to see “Magic Mike.”
2) Joey Esposito is an editor with IGN.com and he’s trying to get his graphic novel “Pawn Shop” funded through Kickstarter. It looks really cool and the man’s got talent, in addition to serious geek cred. Check out the link and pass it on: http://t.co/DjvKTQmB
That’s all for now, sports fans! I’m out to get the comic finished and I’ll see you again on Friday. Peace!
Dear Grandma,
The past few days haven’t been easy. I’ve been surrounded by family, some of whom I haven’t seen in years. I’ve traveled back and forth between your house and Mom and Dad’s (those have been short trips as you know, since both houses are right across the street from each other) so often I’d forget which one I was at if the darn dog wouldn’t follow me everywhere.
It was nice of you to have us all over at your house. I hope we didn’t make too much of a mess. I’m not sure if Windex is the correct cleaner for your kitchen table but it’s made of glass so I assume it’s probably okay. All the bedroom doors are shut to keep your great grandchildren from running through every room of the house; we figure if they’re going to break stuff they should probably do it outside or across the street (Sorry, Mom and Dad!).
I never realized how many different Bibles there were until I saw a small portion of your collection. I started reading one once…”Genesis” was surprisingly interesting and I’m really curious to see what happens next. Maybe if it’s okay, I can borrow one? You may need to help me select one since there are so many to choose from.
I’m sorry I don’t visit as often as I should. I suppose if I think of each visit as a rarity, they’ll seem more special. It was really good seeing you last week. As I left, you told me how my visit really “made [your] day” and hearing that really brightened mine too. It was very nice sitting and talking with you and Aunt Anne. I remember how sad you seemed but also happy to have us be there with you.
I know you’re in a different place now but I promise to visit you often. I may have to do most of the talking next time but I think I can manage. I’ll have you to guide me.
I love you Grandma. I miss you.
Sincerely,
Cameron
P.S. Say hi to Grandpa for me.
I should probably post something
I feel terrible. I’ve been neglecting my poor blog lately.
It sits here waiting day after day, week after week, waiting for me to come and type up new things, nurturing it and helping it to grow. Sadly, life and all of it’s busy components tend to get in the way. Here’s a quick summary of the past few weeks
3 Weeks Ago: I turned 30. Had a nice little party with some close friends and family. Had some good food and good times and an awesome Star Wars cake that happened to be 3 hours late (pictures forthcoming)
2 Weeks Ago: The family had a garage sale (hence the topical comics recently). The time I didn’t spend setting up and selling precious (and not-so precious) belongings was spent at my actual job or worrying about my Grandma who’s recently been diagnosed with cancer.
1 Week Ago: Spent every waking hour getting ready for the Relay for Life cancer walk that my wife and I were at for nearly 24 hours straight. If it weren’t for Red Bull and Dr. Pepper, I probably wouldn’t have made it through the night.
Saturday: Slept til about 3:30 in the afternoon, woke up, ate dinner and watched the season finale of “Sherlock.” Amazing stuff.
Sunday: Got up at 5am to go to work, went to visit my Grandma, discovered I had a tire about to go flat, spent 45 minutes waiting on AAA, spent another hour and 1/2 at Wal-Mart getting said tire replaced before coming home and having dinner at 8 o’clock.
Been a busy…well, year to say the least but I might have some time to relax in the near future…
…maybe…possibly…
…probably not :p
