Once again I’ve gone scrolling through my archives and found a few oldies but goodies (along with a couple that are JUST oldies).
Hey everybody! This week I’m celebrating Throwback Thursday, as well as the lomg-awaited release of “Deadpool 2” by sharing a couple of past commissions featuring the Merc with a Mouth, along with a few new pieces, including a couple never-before seen sketches!
These last two are brand new sketch cards, currently in progress, featuring Deadpool’s newest co-stars Cable and Domino. I plan to have these two cleaned up and colored by the time I catch the film this weekend. Have a great week!
Happy Friday, everybody! I decided to use this space to unveil some of my finished pieces, though a couple of these you may have seen before via Twitter or Instagram. I started working on these last fall for Inktober and just now got around to finishing the backgrounds. The theme of this series was “80’s Era X-Men”, using characters and costumes from the classic Claremont/Byrne run of “Uncanny X-Men.” I may add a few more eventually but I’ve already started on a series inspired by their early 90’s series, my personal favorite era since that was when I first discovered the Merry Mutants.
The below pieces were inked and colored using a combination of Microns, Prismacolors, Copic markers and multiliners.
In honor of Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2 being released, this week’s TBT is my original Sanrio-inspired print, featuring the now-famous characters in their original comic book designs. Below is the black & white inked piece, followed by the full-color version, which was completed with Copic markers.
This week’s TBT is everyone’s favorite grouchy, red-skinned, gunslinging paranormal investigator/monster puncher Hellboy! It’s only a couple years old and one of my first attempts at a full-scale drawing colored in Copics. The streakiness is a little off-putting but I’m still fairly pleased with that fire. Might be time to pull out this gem and clean it up in time for Planet Comicon next week, where Hellboy himself, Mr. Ron Perlman will be in attendance!
In honor of the Hulk’s “incredible” new look in the Thor: Ragnarok trailer, this week’s TBT is Hulk in his gladiator armor from the uber-popular “Planet Hulk” storyline, from which Thor’s new flick seems to be borrowing in certain respects.
This sketch was done completely in pencil back in 2007. You can check out the trailer here to see how they compare.
Welcome back! This week’s throwback is yet another early sketch cover, this time depicting everyone’s favorite crossbow-wielding, walker-killing, sleeve-loathing redneck Daryl Dixon! This was just the first of many Walking Dead sketch covers I’ve done and the shading is…rough to say the least but it still has a special place in my heart.
Hello all and welcome to another installment of Throwback Thursday or as I call it “Recycle Old Drawings Day”! This week I’ve posting the original pencil sketch of the Rocketeer I did years ago before transforming it into one of my first (and, to date, most popular) prints.
Original sketch above’ finished version below.
Happy Thursday! I’m starting a new thing around here, where every week, I’ll post something new (or rather, old) for Throwback Thursday. To start, here’s a piece I did almost four years ago. This was one of the very first sketch covers I ever drew, and the first one I ever sold, admittedly for much cheaper than I should have. To be fair, I was new to this whole “drawing for money” thing, so I had no idea how much to charge. Even now, I occasionally second guess myself.
But alas. I’ve done a bunch of covers since, but this is still one of my absolute favorites. I present to you, my Young Avengers cover, featuring Kate Bishop, aka Hawkeye:
Cute huh? Been dying to draw the little guy since his star-making turn in “Guardians of the Galaxy” a few months back. I’ll have this available as a print for sale tomorrow at FreeState Comicon in Lawrence, KS at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. I’ll also have some other new prints and I’ve got new comic book sketch covers available for commissions (including TMNT, The Walking Dead, and Avengers).
If you’re in the KC/Lawrence/Topeka area, come by and hang out. I mean, if nothing else I’ll have free candy. And who doesn’t love candy? That is free?
